After thinking about it a bit, Nick Johnson and his OBP does seem like the kind of player the Padres might be interested in. But only if they wanted to move Adrian, which they don’t, and if they didn’t have two other potential first basemen in Kyle Blanks and Allan Dykstra. Plus, Nick’s contract is up in 2009, and the Padres are looking for players to help in the long term, the next 4-6 years.

And while the Padres don’t have an ideal center fielder for 2009, Lastings Milledge isn’t enough of an improvement over Jody Gerut and Will Venable to make a trade worth their while.
